PUZZLE

Content: How to build/design a puzzle

Materials:  A square of wood, play dough of different colors, pencil, eraser, glue, paint brush.

Goal: (Learning-how-to-learn) At the end of this workshop, pre-service teachers are going to be able to conceive a class in which these type of activity –the creation of a puzzle or its use in a class- is implemented as an creative way to encourage children’s problem-solving skills, cognitive skills, hand-eye coordination, fine motor development, self-esteem, social skills, among others.  

Steps to construct our puzzle:

• Draw on the wood square the sketch of the image we want in our puzzle
• Fill the drawing with the clay (using the color they want to)
• Retouch the sketch of the drawing using a marker
• Polish the filled drawing before going to the next step
• Cover the filled drawing with a layer of liquid glue (using a paint brush)
• Let it dry for a whole afternoon
• Cut the wood square of our puzzle as you want to (the number of pieces and the shape they will take)
• Play with the puzzle
